Russia offers training and military support for Ethiopia’s naval expansion

Ethiopian and Russian naval officials met to discuss strengthening military cooperation, focusing on maritime training and capacity-building, as Ethiopia works to establish a naval force despite being landlocked. This comes amid regional tensions, particularly following Ethiopia's controversial agreement with Somaliland for sea access, which Somalia opposed. Ethiopia's naval ambitions and growing ties with Russia have raised concerns, with Somalia strengthening military cooperation with Egypt, and al-Shabaab potentially exploiting these regional divisions.
